When we first began doing glazes we went for the gusto with one dark glaze. The results were great but we soon learned we could do far better by doing a series of glazes, often with a wide variety of colours. Sneaking up on the final result made for a much better outcome. Initially we do the broad, bold strokes over much of the surface. Then we get more selective and much more subtle, working on small areas at a time. After the application of the third glaze the tortoise is now at this stage. The big brushes will be tucked away and the little ones will come out to play. It’s time for the detail painting.
