Cut, bend, fit, clamp, weld, grind, repeat.

They say things that look easy are most often quite the opposite. That is certainly true with the giant pump handle. Each segment of metal must first be cut to shape, then bent to fit by hand, a little at a time. Once it looks good the piece needs to be clamped securely into place and then tacked with some small welds. Depending on the piece we start at one end, or the middle and then work outwards, moving the clamps as we go, carefully coaxing the metal into place. Once the section is secure we can go back and lay on the welds before moving on to the next piece. Once the welding is done it is time for lots of grinding with a sanding disk to make the corners uniform and smooth. Once finished the curving piece looks great and relatively simple but is is quite the opposite. I know that Matt, who is doing the bulk of the welding and grinding on this piece will be glad when we move on to the other parts of this project.
